#002: Use Your Fire

Today is such an exciting day because this podcast has been a dream of mine for years! And I cannot believe we are actually doing this together! Education is one of my greatest passions in life and I am so excited to build this podcast and this community with resources for you to help you grow and support you and your business! I want this podcast to be a conversation among friends about life and business with applicable tips and tricks to teach you how to manage a sustainable business so that you can create the life you’ve always dreamed of. I started my art business as a side hustle after my 9-5 between the hours of 5 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 9 pm (and actually much later than that). Those years in the trenches were messy and beautiful and fun and exciting, but they would have been a lot easier with an art coach to offer advice along the way.

It's always a little bit scary starting any new journey, and I would be amiss if I didn’t share that I am a little bit scared to dive into the podcast world. It is definitely outside of my comfort zone, as I’m realizing that I typically hide behind my paintbrush and my work… so this is me stepping out of my comfort zone because I truly believe that my voice and perspective can offer help and encouragement to so many people who desperately want to go out on a limb and chase after their dreams.

I have been working extremely long hours lately and have gotten into a little routine of bringing some of my smaller paintings into the living room at night so that I can paint in a cozier setting after my kids go to bed. I was watching an episode of The Kardashians the other night as I was painting, because I needed something mindless in the background that could keep me going when I was getting tired. I think Kris Jenner is an amazing business woman and whether you love them or hate them… there is a lot we can learn as business owners about the power of personal branding from the Kardashian family. In this particular episode, Kris was talking to Khloe about starting a podcast… which I thought was super interesting because I had already written this episode and started recording… but after watching… I realized that I needed to add this little story into my pilot episode…

Anyways so Kris was talking to Khloe and Khloe was telling her how she was nervous, afraid of starting a podcast and that she didn’t want to do it… well Kris responds with something that was so profound… she said “Fear is like fire, it can either heat your home, or burn your house down, it goes both ways.”

Let me tell you, I had to put my paint brush down because I got completely distracted like I wasn’t supposed to do… but I absolutely had to write down that quote.

I think there is so much value in understanding that fear can be a limiting factor that burns your house down, or if you learn to manage it, it can be a motivator that helps you heat your home. I have had to step out in fear many times over the years as I’ve grown my business and I think it is actually an extremely powerful motivator if you change your mindset about it. A healthy dose of fear can be used as tool in your business to help you fan your flame and push you to chase after your dreams… if you learn how to control it rather than letting it control you and keep you down. So, maybe you’re like me and you feel a little bit nervous to step into your calling… don’t let that be the reason that you don’t begin your journey.

So, 5to9ers here’s to harnessing our fear and using it to heat our home rather than burn it down… thank you for joining me on this journey with me! Let’s grow together beyond what we think we are capable of.
