Instagram has been a huge part of growing my business over the years and while social media has its downsides - I am so thankful to live in a time where it is possible to run an art business from home utilizing the power of social media. I’ve been growing my community on Instagram since 2014 and as you all know there have been huge shifts that have happened on the platform over the years. I’m a huge proponent of trial and error and let me tell you I’ve tried lots of different methods to expand my reach. While this isn’t a one size fits all and the same exact thing won’t work for everyone -  I’m going to walk you through the changes that I made that have worked best for me to grow my Instagram community to 150k+ organically.

Before we dive in, I do want to mention that while the number of followers is definitely an important aspect to my business, it is not the only thing that is important. It’s important to note, that I had a thriving full time art business when I had 10,000 followers, you do not have to have hundreds of thousand followers to have a successful full time business. So whether you have 100 followers or 1,000 followers, you have a community that is there supporting you and that is HUGE. Don’t undervalue the people that are following your journey right now and cheering for you! I would argue that a small but mighty following is worth more than a huge following that isn’t engaged. I think it’s also important to note that the amount of followers, does not necessarily equal more money. With any following, you have to strategically market yourself to monetize.

So the main change that I had to make to grow on Instagram was in breaking down the barriers in my mind that were holding me back. I had a lot of insecurities that were making me feel like I needed to hide behind perfectly edited photos and scripted videos. To get to where I am today, I had to decide that I loved myself enough to show up exactly the way I am. I feel like I need to repeat that, the change I made was loving myself enough to show up exactly how I am.
